If You Want Proof...

Texas is the world's 12th largest economy (if it were a nation...technically we are if we really wanted to be).  And I don't want to sound like I'm tooting our horn (Gabriel's horn...if you know the song "The Eyes of Texas are Upon You") but... TOOT!! TOOT!!  A recent article (found here: Texas In Great Economic Shape ) talks about how great we are doing - despite the Socialist government running the country.  Yes, I know G.W. Bush is still our President - and we here in Texas are proud of him - but I feel that he's gotten lost among the Liberals back East.

The reason we're doing so well, HMMM.....
   1) No State income tax.
   2) Low taxes for businesses.
   3) Good Conservative budget management.
   4) The housing bubble didn't hit us as hard.
   5) Our State government has close reins on spending.

You'd think that with such a tight fisted budget, our roads would be a mess and the schools would be horrible.  But you would be WRONG!
- Our roads are some of the best in the country.  Ask any trucker.  The road signs are all pretty new, and plentiful.
- Our schools are some of the best in the nation.  AND every child that graduates from high school in Texas is guaranteed acceptance to any of our State colleges (UT-Austin, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, etc.).
- Further, if you join the military from Texas, you get free tuition to any of the State colleges.

So why is it that folks around the country can't figure out that we need solid Conservative economic and social policies?  They haven't been told the truth.  To all my friends in states like "Cahleeforniah", Ohio, Missouri, and Michigan... your "eyes" should be "upon" Texas.

By the way, TWO of the best college football teams are right here in Texas.  Texas Tech (GO RAIDERS!) and UT-Austin.  AND the two top candidates for the Heisman Trophy are here as well.  Its great to be in Texas!

FannieMae and the Liberal Mindset

I got this a few days ago, and some of the comments I've gotten recently (thanks Sue and bryce) have reminded me about this clip.  I can not for the life of me figure out how McCain/Palin have missed this point. The House Republicans and some of the Senate Republicans (including McCain) have been trying for several years to regulate and get a handle on the free-for-all lending practices that were FORCED on FannieMae and FreddieMac.  The only reason why none of this never saw the floor in Congress was that it could never have passed with enough votes due to the then slight Republican majority and the more recent Democratic majority in the House.  I am furious over the fact that not enough was done to stop this madness.

I understand why the Liberals in Congress think the way they do.  They feel the need to help the poor, the folks in need, and such.  But I care about these people too.  We just don't need to go around forcing bad business practices on lenders to help the disadvantaged.
My view is that the poor and needy can better benefit from a "hand up" and not a "hand out".  I think you all can agree with the old saying: "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.  Teach a man to fish, feed him for life."  That is what many good and caring Conservatives feel.  Sure, help those in need - by giving them the opportunities to better themselves.  Don't turn people into welfare and entitlement junkies.  Let them have some dignity by getting out of the way to let businesses hire them, encouraging local faith-based groups to help the needy improve themselves, and save our tax dollars for those who truly need help (i.e. the disabled veterans, the family who lost a loved one while serving the country, etc.).
I went to a fantastic prep school in Detroit - University of Detroit Jesuit High School (GO CUBS!).  While I was there, we were encouraged to work with a wonderful group sponsored by the Archdioscese of Detroit (yes, the Catholic church) called FOCUS:Hope.  This organization (which I've visited several times even after I graduated) does help feed the needy, the elderly shut-ins, and the homeless.  But, they also have several fantastic vocational training programs to teach folks a trade (like machinists, and other technical jobs) so they can get good paying jobs. I think programs like FOCUS:Hope should be established everywhere, and supported by all of us with our donations of money, time, and talent.

Mike Church and Beck - Damn, they should get out of my head!

These guys I think are somehow "channeling" my thoughts.  Are they secretly reading me?  Hey, if either of you are.. gimme a shout out, a little love or something!
I was at work last night, and I hate to admit that I was wasting our tax dollars, but it was a little slow - all my patients were asleep - and so I was doodling on a computer.  I saved a pic of one of those Obama posters that looks suspiciously like one of those Leninist/Stalinist deals from the old Soviet Union - and began to re-color it to make it even more Soviet style.  (I'd put it up for y'all to see but its still saved on a PC at work.)  I began to hum to myself the old Soviet national anthem as I was doing this.  Then, what do I see on Glenn's show tonight?!?  MY FREAKIN' IDEA!!!  Complete with Obama's new "national anthem".  All Hail Comrade Obama!
On my way home from the hospital this morning I caught some of Mike Church's radio show.  A good show on Sirius satellite's Patriot channel.  He has a guest on there (forgot his name - too sleepy to remember) and the first thing out of his mouth was "Hello Comrade!".  This was a shot at McCain, and Obama both - but still MY FREAKIN' IDEA!
Obama I swear to you will turn this country into the U.S.S.A. if he weasels his way into the White House.  There will not be any incentive to succeed in business or your careers.  All you have to do is FAIL.  That's right - FAIL MISERABLY.  It'll be okay, because good ol' Uncle Barry will be there to help you with keeping you in your house.  He'll be there to give you the anti-depressants you'll need from the free government health clinic (and you'll need them to keep you calm and subdued).  He'll be there to make sure your child with ADD/ADHD can get in Harvard or Yale because they'll have to.  He'll be there to make sure all your dreams will come true.  Why he's the FREAKIN' FAIRY GODFATHER!!!

The Point

If you've been watching Glenn Beck lately, you'll know what I'm talking about.  Ron Paul was on to something when he was talking about economic policies.  The US simply cannot go on the way we are unless we do something about all the entitlements that are being paid out.  My dear mother and others will be mad when I say this - but I think that we might need to come up with a way to "opt out" of social security and medicare all together.  It may have been a good idea at one time to help those seniors who didn't have anything or anyone that they could depend on for financial support and health care assistance.  But as I tried to explain to my mom several times before, I am paying for her social security and medicare.  I will have to hope that there would be even more workers who will be paying into these mandated programs when I reach retirement in order for me to collect anything - because I'll have to use their money and probably their children's money for me to get my benefits.  There aren't going to be enough workers to support the baby boomers and Generation X.  The sad thing is that - once again nobody will have enough huevos to do something.
Another thing is that the way our currency is tied to the banking system, we are really in for a rough next 30 years even if we do get some reforms in place.  Basically, China and OPEC owns us.  They hold the note on most of our debt and we are going to have to pay up one of these days.
So the point is that - yes we need to get John McCain in office.  Yes we need to grow investments in this country for business.  We need to wean the dollar off the federal reserve system in order to strengthen it.  Drilling for our own oil will help the economy, and will start the process of getting our interests focused on our own country.  Cutting earmarks are a start, but we really should look at getting the government out of the retirement fund and health care business.
Finally, we should take a cue from Michael Phelps and start learning Mandarin Chinese.  Because they will have us by the "short and curlies" for a long time to come.
