If you really had to ask

By the way that the media and Hollywood stars are all falling over themselves to crown Barry Obama as the next greatest thing to come along since sliced bread you'd think that Hillary was a snaggle-toothed old hag.  They aren't that far from the truth, but I digress.
This just is a continuation of the same pattern that has existed with these types for nearly 100 years.  Think about it...how many times you've seen a good actress who's "past her prime" (think Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, etc.) get left out of the latest blockbuster movie because she's just too old?  Just you wait and see, in about 8 years or so Ann Hathaway (the latest 'hottie' on the scene) will be relegated to playing the role of a doting old mother in some bit part.
So it isn't any wonder that Hillary (who's around 60) was cast aside by the so-called illuminati in the media/Hollywood.  Barry Obama comes along with his big smile and platitudes about change (which don't add up to anything new anyway), and kicks Hillary to the curb.
Now, before you start thinking that I am going to start feeling sorry for Hillary - let me make it clear that I still hate her guts.  She is nothing more than a carpetbaggin' power hungry old cow who'd love to climb even higher in the circles of power in DC.
I also think that it is a royal croc of SH*T that she has the gall to force "Mr. Empty-suit" to press supporters to help retire her campaign debt.  If I recall, she and her horn-dog husband have hundreds of millions of dollars in their bank accounts courtesy of Bill's business dealings in Dubai.
Maybe that is her way of needling the Dems and her former Hollywood "friends".

Small victory in war on Gas Prices

Yaaaaaay!  Finally something is starting to get done on moving Washington to do something about oil prices.  I'm glad that "W" signed the executive order to open off-shore drilling.  Now if the idiots in Congress will get off their lazy, fat, overpaid a**es then we might be able to start to become the U.S.A. we all remembered before we sold our souls to the Saudis, Venezuela, etc.  For our friends on the left who'll argue about this let's take their points apart one by one:

"Why did it take so long for Bush to do this?"  or  "It's all just politics, so why now and not last year or even longer ago?"  Ok, let's think about this.  Was the price of gas putting as big of a strain on the economy and the public a year ago as it is now?  Not really.  Sure it was starting to become a burden when we hit $3 a gallon, but the "tipping point" really was a combination of how long we've been paying this much and when gas hit $4 a gallon.  The effects of these prices are finally starting to show up now (higher food/commodities prices, etc.).  No, it's not politics...it's just Bush finally got it.  Hate to say it, but it takes a while for the voices of the people to drown out the symphony of crap that big money lobbyists, etc. are playing.  Add to this the fact that the liberal congress hates being called on their complicity in this fiasco.  They are just as much to blame as the last 5 administrations (all the way back to Carter).

"Well, what about the 68 million acres of land the oil companies have leases on?  Why can't they drill there?"  Let me ask a question.  If you had a business plan that you knew was going make you tons of money you'd do it - right?  Do you think that if the oil companies knew there were oil deposits on that land that they would just sit on it and not drill?  I don't think so.  Sure holding the lease on the land is not the best thing to do, but there hasn't been any oil found on any of that land.  There are proven oil reserves found in the waters off the coasts of FL, MS, AL, TX, GA, CA and the ANWR lands as well.  Why would China, Cuba, and others be drilling off OUR shores if there wasn't any oil there?  Just to make us mad?  I don't think so.  (Warning science content) Alaska has probably the biggest oil producing capabilities in the world.  If you believe the evolutionary thing, do you remember something about a "land bridge" between Alaska and Russia thousands of years ago?  Ancient animals and such crossed that land bridge all the time, and these animals, etc. died up there in AK and Russia.  They turned into oil.  Russian oil companies are making huge discoveries of oil in Siberia, and there have been large discoveries of oil in AK as well.  So what's to say that there aren't huge oil deposits in ANWR?

"The oil from ANWR and the off shore drilling won't do anything to lower the prices.  It will take 10 years before we see any of that oil, if there is any."  You must not know how the futures market works.  Speculators are betting - yes, betting - that there will be a decrease in the amount of oil available based on what is going on in the world.  Every time Iran shoots off a rocket, every time Israel threatens Iran, every time anything happens - the price of oil changes.  So if the market were to get word that the U.S. finally grew a pair of nuts and said, "ENOUGH!  We're drilling for our own oil!" - don't you think that the market would back off and start bidding down the price of oil?

"Well, it will be bad for the environment.  The spotted polar fluffy seal bear and Willy the killer whale will lose their natural habitats!"  Oh puh-leeeze!  Look at Norway - one of the 'greenest' nations in the world.  They are drilling off their coasts and pumping lots of oil without any impact whatsoever to their shores.  The ANWR is so small compared to the millions of acres of land that the wildlife up there can inhabit.  If you're so frickin' worried about the caribou up there then have Congress set aside another few hundred acres of tundra elsewhere and call it ANWR 2.0.  Not only that but I guess that when you won't be able to get your venti mocha choco lattes because the Starbucks have all closed down due the coffee not being shipped from the politically correct fields in Columbia or wherever in Africa due to the incredibly high prices of diesel fuel to truck it to your sorry neighborhood - you may actually start to get the picture.  You can't have your cute cuddly caribou and sip your latte too (at least at these prices).

"But we need to not use oil and start using solar or wind power."  I agree in part with that.  But the U.S. cannot be a single source user of energy to move forward to energy independence.  Oil is going to be here to stay for a long time - until a viable energy source to power transportation (ships, trucks, planes, trains, and cars) is discovered.  That is why the economic future of the U.S. is based on oil.  If nothing is moving, then the economy isn't moving.

Bottom line...we need to keep the pressure on the overpaid lazy bums in Congress until our screams of discontent are heard.  Get involved and don't let the responsibility pass on to the next person.  We cannot afford to be complacent, because there are a lot of wrong-headed folks out there who don't get it.  Obama (Dr. No) and his liberal sheep are not going to fix the problems - they will compound them.  Educate yourselves - and your community.

Beware of LULAC!!

I know that this is a touchy subject among my friends here in El Paso and folks who live in border states.  If you haven't heard of LULAC (the League of United Latin American Citizens) then you definately have been effected in one way by this group.  Let me begin by telling you I've just read a study done by the well respected Heritage Foundation titled "The Threat of Non-Citizen Voting" by Hans A. von Spakovsky.  This study details how aliens (legal and illegal) have swayed elections with their votes.  Not only is this illegal, but it in effect disenfranchises the votes of legal citizens.  No wonder my vote in El Paso never makes a difference!
Let me quote from this study to inform you further:
In 2006, Paul Bettencourt, Voter Registrar for Harris County, Texas, (Houston) testified before the U.S. Committee on House Administration that the extent of illegal voting by foreign citizens in Harris County was impossible to determine but "that it has and will continue to occur." Twenty-two percent of county residents, he explained, were born outside of the United States, and more than 500,000 were non-citizens. Bettencourt noted that he cancelled the registration of a Brazilian citizen in 1996 after she acknowledged on a jury summons that she was not a U.S. citizen. Despite that cancellation, however, "She then reapplied in 1997, again claiming to be a U.S. citizen, and was again given a voter card, which was again cancelled. Records show she was able to vote at least four times in general and primary elections."

In 2005, Bettencourt's office turned up at least 35 cases in which foreign nationals applied for or received voter cards, and he pointed out that Harris County regularly had "elections decided by one, two, or just a handful of votes." In fact, an alien voter was discovered to have voted in a state legislative race in Harris County that was decided by only 33 votes. Nor is this problem unique to Harris County. Recent reports indicate that hundreds of illegal aliens registered to vote in Bexar County, Texas, (San Antonio) and that at least 41 of them have voted, some several times, in a dozen local, state, and federal elections.

This problem is also a national security issue.  von Spakovsky continues:
In 1994, Mario Aburto Martinez, a Mexican national and the assassin of Mexican presidential candidate Luis Donaldo Colosio, was found to have registered twice to vote in California.  A random sample of just 10 percent of the 3,000 Hispanics registered to vote in California's 39th Assembly District by an independent group "revealed phony addresses and large numbers of registrants who admitted they were not U.S. citizens."  Eight of the 19 September 11 hijackers were registered to vote in either Virginia or Florida—registrations that were probably obtained when they applied for driver's licenses.  (Empahasis added)

Now, why is LULAC a problem?  They started out as a good organization and continue today to do good work among the poor latios in the community.  I frequently see their vans picking up elderly folks and take them to doctor's appointments and such.  But the problem is that their voter registration drives (a good idea in principle) frequently target aliens (legal and illegal) to vote.  I can almost guarantee that if the voter registration records of El Paso were audited - a good 25% of those listed would in some way be disqualified due to false addresses, false identification, and flat out lies about their citizenship by those who registered them.  I wouldn't doubt the same is true in towns all across TX, NM, AZ, and CA.  The Heritage Foundation study also described instances of alien voters in Chicago (hmmm, cough-OBAMA-cough, gag).

I highly recommend reading through this article and fowarding it to your local newspaper/media outlets.  It may generate some investigations.  It can be found at http://www.heritage.org/Research/LegalIssues/lm28.cfm .

The end of the study couldn't have been written better:
Requiring that our laws—all of our laws— be complied with requires no more of an alien than it does of a citizen. Election officials have an obligation not only to enforce those laws, but also to implement registration and election procedures that do not allow those laws to be bypassed or ignored. Anything less encourages contempt for the law and our election process. Lax enforcement of election laws permits individuals who have not entered the American social compact or made a commitment to the U.S. Constitution, U.S. laws, and the U.S. cultural and political heritage to participate in elections and potentially change the outcome of closely contested races that affect how all Americans are governed.

Here, here!!

Is it just me or...

Is it just me or is the GOP's campaign being run in low gear this season?  I mean there's nobody out there pounding on all the idiotic and nonsensical things that Obama and his mouthpieces are spewing out there.  Oh sure there's the usual suspects (Hannity, Rush, and even O'Reilly) but the campaign itself needs to have the "bulldog" out in the media jumping on every flip-flop, every mis-spoken fact, and every bad idea put out by Obama and his drones.  Will it take until John McCain picks his running mate?  I hope not.
This election should be a slam-dunk for those of us who stand for conservative values (even if we have to settle for Johnny Mac).  I mean look at this guy Obama.
    1) He's young and inexperienced.
    2) He has shown himself to be the most liberal candidate since McGovern in '72.
    3) He is condescending, arrogant and elitist.  (Watch him speak on TV or in person.  He can't betray his body language as he looks down his nose at the crowd or whoever is interviewing him.)
    4) He can't make up his mind on foreign policy, energy, or even his plans to end the war in Iraq.

I cringe when Fox News gets these political analysts or stategists (read "struggling/unemployed Political Science majors") who think they speak for the candidate or the party.  Just because "Biff" or "Buffy" can make a better argument against "Chad" or "Candy" shouldn't fill the time on Hannity & Colmes.  And have you ever noticed how EVERY female anchor/reporter on Fox is a ditzy blonde or a Greta wannabe?  Just because Greta is intelligent and has a speech impediment (must have had a stroke) doesn't mean that all the other females should be blonde and semi with it.  The only (and I mean ONLY) exceptions to the "dumb blonde" rule on Fox are:
   1) Greta (I'll sue your a**) Von Sustern
   2) Laura (death to liberals!) Ingraham (LOVE her)
   3) Uma (I can't get my own show on here) Pemmaraju
Can anyone else think of any others who don't fit the dumb blonde rule for females?

I don't mean to disparage Fox News.  They are such a thorn in the side of all the remaining news organizations.  No one else will even come close to saying anything nice about the right.

A new Cottage Industry making commercials

I swear I should have stayed in my media major back when I first went to college.  I talked (and goofed around) myself out of a Communications degree.  Seeing all these cheesy ads from every possible energy concern under the sun, I think I missed out on a goldmine.  If you haven't seen any of these ads from the oil & natural gas producers, clean coal coalition, even good folks like T. Boone Pickens and others they all just complicate things.  Just pester the hell out of Government to GET 'R DONE!! (Sorry Larry the Cable Guy)
I agree that America needs to get on the same page.  I also agree that it is possible to supplement our electrical power needs by increasing the share of other resources (i.e. building more nuke power plants, erecting hundreds of thousands more wind turbines, and adding more clean coal plants).  We would be best served if the government (federal, state and local) would get out of the way and let private industry upgrade our power grid across state lines (a la the phone companies).  There is a clear need to do this for several reasons.
   1) Remember that massive blackout a few years ago?  Power was shut down all over the northeast and as far west as Detroit due to the inability of the aging power grids to keep up with demand.
   2) If Americans start buying these electric cars that we keep hearing about debuting in the next 3-7 years, the demand for electricity will certainly double if not triple.
   3) How many of you will be or have already bought a new digital TV recently because of the DTV switch next spring?  They don't run on batteries yet do they?
   4) It is a PROVEN FACT that when the Government tries to do something that a private firm can do...the private firm ALWAYS does it FASTER, CHEAPER, and MORE EFFICIENTLY.

I can tell you from my travels that wind power would be a wise choice.  While I lived in Italy, there were windmills just like the ones you might have seen popping up in the US all over the place.  There is a town a friend of mine lived in where the electricity was FREE and they even were getting money back from the town because their windmills produced enough energy to take care of them and still be able to sell the "extra" energy to neighboring towns.  If you haven't been to west Texas - it gets pretty windy out here.  There are a few wind "farms" out here that allow power companies to sell "green" power solely generated from these farms.  My appliances, etc. didn't notice the difference when they were on.

All I know is that there needs to be a LOT LESS TALK and a LOT MORE ACTION by the Congress and the state governments to get this train out of the station.  America...LET'S GET THIS TRAIN ROLLIN'!!

What else is new?

I was watching Fox News earlier today and Brit Hume was trying to read the story about the Congress' approval rating being only 9%.  Poor guy was so flabbergasted that he nearly choked.  I'm not suprised by this latest number.  It is so obvious that the Congress is rife with greedy, money-hungry leeches that are the dupes for unsavory countries, industries, and hair-brained causes.  If you haven't read Dick Morris' book "Fleeced" you're going to have blood shooting out of your eyes when you read it.  I won't spoil it for you, but it was shocking to me to read just how bad these weasels are.  If there isn't major changes in the way Washington is running, then we might as well forget about this grand experiment we call America.  I really think that the weasels in Congress think that the general public is just a bunch of lazy, apathetic, ignorant morons that don't have the guts to stand up and say anything about their performance.

Let's show them they are wrong!!  It is time to GET ANGRY America!!  It is time to let the bastards in Washington know that they can't fool us anymore with empty promises!!  Go to http://www.congress.org/congressorg/directory/congdir.tt and look up your representative.  Email him/her or call him/her, and tell them how you feel about their performance.  I guarantee that you won't get through to anyone of significance - but if enough people start calling/emailing/writing they will notice.  Then when nothing has changed in November - vote the bastards out of office.  Tell your friends to do the same.  I'm sure that if you ask your friends, and family how they feel about the congress they will agree with you (at least 91% will).

Get involved America!!  Do it while we still can.

Obama's Healthcare Plan

I have been looking over Sen. NObama's plans to wreck er, give heathcare to all America - including the 11 million or so illegal er, 'undocumented' immigrants.  The plan would be bad in the following ways that you might not have thought of:

     1) With physicians being told what to charge for everything (non-negotiable) they will not get paid enough to stay in practice.
     2) Fewer students will go on to med school because they won't have the incentive to become a physician (no pay).
     3) Fewer doctors will make it difficult to see ANY doctor.
     4) Hospitals will begin shutting down in rapid succession because fewer doctors = fewer dollars.
     5) Decreased profits will mean fewer healthcare workers as they will get fired, downsized, etc.
     6) Nurses (who already are overburdened, understaffed, underpaid, and pissed off) will either be forced to take pay cuts or quit.
     7) Grandma who was lucky enough to get admitted for that broken hip under NObama's plan will get really crappy care and
probably die from a secondary infection, inpatient fall, or medical error because her nurse was working an 16 hour shift in order to          pay her bills because of NObama's increased taxes.
     8) The government will over-regulate the healthcare system so much, that none of the hospitals can meet all their requirements and
have to close due to so many fines and lack of reimbursment.

Think about it!!

Howdy! Welcome to TS&H

Well, for my first try at a real live blog - I decided to go "big time" and get on board with TownHall.  I have to let y'all know that living in a border community (El Paso) is like living on the front lines in the immigration/border fence/drug war.  We have a bunch of 1st class doofus' that are on the county commission.  They actually voted to state their opposition with the border fence (like that's going to matter anyway - 'cuz it ain't being built anyway by our lazy a** goverment).  One of these mental midgets even stated that everyone has a RIGHT to live here in the U.S.!  The only anglo (I'm not being racist - just stating fact) on the commission voted against this motion.  Naturally, I immediately sent an email to him thanking him for his support and urged him to continue to fight against this nonsense.  I also wrote a letter to the editor of the El Paso Times newspaper correcting this wrong-headed thinking.

It is NOT a right but a priviledge to live here, and there have been many thousands of men and women who have died to keep it that way.  Of course people can come here and visit or even immigrate here - but all of us should remember that if you are going to choose to come here then you must be held accountable to our laws and statutes just as other citizens are.

Another item that really "chaps" me is that our so-called representation in the Congress has done nothing of note.  Surely there has to be more to governing the affairs of the country than to look down from their lofty station and re-name post offices, declare a national "booger picking awareness month", congratulate the chess club at Zug Island Tech for winning the National Championship, and go after the horrible "Big Oil" executives for high prices.  C'mon America!  Get angry with these people and vote the bastards out.  I don't care if it is an election year... we need action on opening up drilling for oil, funding building more refineries, nuclear power plants, and clean coal processing plants.  I highly recommend going to Mr. Gingrich's website americansolutions.com and getting involved.

GRRRR!!!
